Microsoft Windows Server 2008

Il 27 febbraio 2008 Microsoft ha rilasciato Windows Server 2008, sistema operativo già presentato da Bill Gates alla WinHEC (Windows Hardware Engineering Conference). Il successore di Windows Server 2003 è, in pratica, un Windows Vista specifico per i server. Inizialmente includeva il supporto ai processori a 32 bit e a 64 bit ma con l’uscita di Windows Server 2008 R2 è stato rimosso completamente il supporto ai processori a 32 bit.

Tra le novità incluse in Windows Server 2008 vi sono:

  • Windows PowerShell = nuova shell ad oggetti .NET
  • IIS 7.0
  • Network Access Protection = protegge la rete dai client invalidati
  • Dynamic Partitioning = allocazione dinamica delle risorse
  • Terminal Services Gateway = accedere ad applicazioni senza usare RAS
  • Failover Clustering = gestione cluster
  • Next Generation TCP/IP Protocol
  • Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS)
  • Supporto nativo di UEFI 2.0
  • Server Manager = nuovo pannello che raggruppa varie funzioni (setup, privilege, configurazioni, etc..)
  • Distributed File System Replication Service (DFS-R)
  • Read Only Domain Controller

  • Windows Server 2008 Datacenter
  • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise
  • Windows Server 2008 Standard
  • Windows Web Server 2008
  • Windows HPC Server 2008

  • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise without Hyper-V
